Antique Victorian Black Hills gold 10 kt Victorian mother of pearl tri colored grape leaf brooch with gold filled frame
Lovely black hills gold brooch. Hallmarking is on the pin stem but not very legible. It has a hand worked frame with a carved mother of pearl grape leave design accented by a tri-color grape leaf. This symbol is seen in many of the pieces from this company. They started in business in the Mid 19th century. This would be one of the early pieces as it is made with a tube hinge. This is a very early one at that. This style was common as the making of the common catch was being patented. As its predecessor it was manufactured during like 1870's to about 1910.
Brooch acid tests positive for 10 kt gold on the leaf. Supporting structures are gold filled. Hinge is base metal.
Brooch measures 1 and 1/2 inches across and 1 inch tall
Weighs 5.8 grams
Item came from a local vintage estate sale as do many of my vintage items. Unfortunately due to the uniqueness of these items they are not able to be reproduced for multiple orders. This is a vintage item which means that there may be some flaws with age. I try and point these out as I find them but each item may not be perfect. Many of my items are kept in the condition that I find them.
