August Goertz Art Nouveau Karess Woodworth powder rouge silver plated compact
Silver Plated Karess Woodworth powder and rouge compact from the 1920's. This compact was designed by August Goertz in 1928. The piece features an embossed flower and scroll motif on the top and bottom, as well as on the interior lift up mirror; with only slight tarnish that enhances the lovely pattern. A swing clasp opens to reveal a clean powder compartment, if you lift the lid inside you find a glass mirror and rouge and puff compartment. There is currently rouge in the compact. There is a little damage to the rouge in the bottom where the powder has become loose. The piece is hallmarked around the edge of the mirror "Karess", "New York Paris", as well as "Woodworth".
This one has an additional plate to be used with the powder puff that would come with. This plate sits in the open compartment. Plate sits in the grooves and is held in by pressure with the puff present. Rare piece as these normally go missing over time.
Compact measures 1 and 7/8ths of an inch tall and 2 and 1/8th of an inch wide.
