The moss agate is stunning with clear base and green inclusions running through the stone. The two chatelain drops are constructed of hand crafted soldered links. The brooch its self frames a cherub between two gryphons while standing upon a Devil's head. This piece certainly tells a story. The stamps are hidden on the face of the brooch located in the left hand side of the gryphons wings right under the back leg. They are of the rampant lion and panther head for London Engand. Below that are CS Star FS for Cornelleus Desomeaux Saunders \u0026amp; James Francis Hollings - Frank- Shepard. They were a manufacturing jewelers out of 23 Bartlett’s Buildings in Holborn Circus. They specialized in mourning jewelry but branched out into all other avenues of jewelry from earrings to necklets.\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThey expanded rapidly taking on numbers 24 and then 25 before also moving into Bartlett’s Passage as their success continued to grow. Initially they specialized in mourning jewelry made from jet but by 1880 they were advertising as “manufacturers in gold and standard silver of brooches, earrings, chains, swivels, lockets and necklets, pendants, solitaires, studs and charms.” In 1889 they became the licensees for the American firm of Krementz and their patented one-piece collar stud and also invented the first self-closing bracelet. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan lang=\"EN-US\"\u003eIn 1890 Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders passed away and the business was taken on by his three sons and converted into a limited company\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eand henceforth known as Saunders and Shepherd Ltd.
