Civil War era First edition 1886 Antique daily pocket prayer book Our Daily Light by Rev. James Smith
This stunning first edition of Our Daily Light or Portions for the Lord's Household. This pocket prayer book was written by the Reverend James Smith. It features a prayer for each day of the year starting with January 1st through December 31st. These pocket books had become popular for soldiers during the Civil war. The front cloth cover is a deep blue in color with gold gilt writing of Our Daily light with a maltese cross in the top left corner and a gold leaf flower in a diamond shape. The binding is in fair condition with the top cover a loose but still attached to the book. There is a handwritten note in the first page to Nellie B Massey from her friend M J. Lennir (hard to read the script). There are also light pencil marks and a written date of 2-16-13 on the back cover. The inside pages are in great condition and have both red and blue writing on the pages. Published by T. Nelson and Sons, London, 1886. Hard Cover. This book is lacking a production page. This book came in a locket antique high end 1800's Dunhill leather men's travel case with a copy of the Gospel of St. John published in 1864.
