Vintage Child Navajo Native American sterling silver turquoise bangle bracelet
Lovely Child sized Navajo turquoise bracelet. There is a Navajo tradition that I am very fond of where the first person to make a child laugh provides a laughter ceremony and should cook dinner for the family and gift them with their first piece of turquoise jewelry. Turquoise is a very important part of the Navajo culture believing to not only bring luck and prosperity but also for protection. Small pieces of sterling silver jewelry are made specifically for the children. This bracelet is an excellent example of the type of jewelry one gifted. Good vintage condition with small signs of normal wear. Split shank design with artisan accents and 2 turquoise cabochons. One stone shows light bit of aging to the color. 1970's in design. No stamps or hallmarks present.
