Stunning little piece of history. I had acquired the piece from a collector friend of mine whom excavated it from a plantation home's burial pit. It was common with large lots of land in the south for families to get rid of things that they didn't want anymore by burying on a remote portion of their land. Brooch was found with a number of other items dating it around the turn of the century. Good vintage condition with some signs of wear.
Acid tests positive for sterling silver.
Brooch measures 1 and 1/4 inches wide and 3/4 of an inch tall.
